- 1 1/4 beef chuck roast

- 4 cups water
- 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
- 1/2 cup barley
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, plus more to taste
- Salt to taste
Cook chuck roast on a slow cooker for 4 to 5 hours on high setting, adding bay leaf and barley during the last hour. When meat is ready and tender, slice into bite-sized pieces. Remove bay leaf and set the meat, broth and barley aside. In a large pot over medium high heat, heat oil then cook carrots, celery, onion and mixed vegetables until tender. What you need:
- 8 hoagie rolls, warmed
- 1 1/4 kilogram beef chuck roast
- 1 jar pepperoncini
- 16 slices provolone cheese
- 4 cloves garlic, sliced
Carefully make small cuts in beef and place garlic slices inside the cuts. Place the roast in a slow cooker then pour all the contents of the pepperoncini jar over the meat (including the liquid). Cover and cook for 6 to 8 hours on low. When ready, slice meat and place on rolls. Top with cheese and sprinkle with pepperoncini.

What you need:
- 2 kilograms chuck roast
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups prepared strong coffee
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Make a few deep cuts on top of a roast using a knife then push garlic inside. Place the beef on a slow cooker and pour coffee over it. Cover and cook for 6 to 8 hours on low. When ready, heat the drippings in a pan over medium low heat. Combine water and cornstarch in a bowl then add mixture to the pan. Simmer until thickened. Serve mixture with roast.
