For a long time, kelp is known as “the longevity food” and “the vegetable on the sea” in the world. It contains various kinds of nutrients which are essential to human body. On the view of its nutritional value, it is indeed a healthy and longevity food.
The effectiveness of kelp:
First, kelp is rich in iodine, which is the main raw material in the synthesis of thyroid hormone in the human body. Thyroid hormone plays an important role in the luster of the hair. As a result, eating kelp regularly can improve the gloss of your hair.
Second, kelp contains much sulfur, which can stimulate the pituitary to reduce the level of estrogen for the women, and restore the normal function of ovarian, improve the endocrine disorders, and eliminate the hidden dangers of breast hyperplasia.
Third, the abundant calcium in kelp may reduce the absorption of cholesterol in the body, and lower the blood pressure.
Fourth, kelp contains plenty of selenium, which has an anti-cancer effect.
Fifth, kelp colloid can prompt the excretion of radioactive substances out of the body along with the defecation, thereby reducing the accumulation of radioactive materials in the human body. And at the mean time, it also reduces the incidence of radiation sickness.
Special notes for eating kelp:
Although kelp contains a variety of nutrients which are beneficial to human health, however, there are some special notes we should pay attention to when eating it.
First, as the current global water pollution, there may be some toxic substance contained in kelp—arsenic. As a result, before cooking kelp, you should first soak it in the water for two or three hours, and change the water for one or two times in the middle of the process. But do not soak it too long, not more than 6 hours, so as to avoid excessive loss of water-soluble nutrients.
Second, do not drink tea or eat sour fruits immediately after you eat kelp.
Third, patients who suffer from hyperthyroidism should keep away from kelp.
Fourth, pregnant women and nursing mothers should not eat too much kelp. This is because the iodine in kelp can enter into the body of fetal child or baby with the blood circulation, causing thyroid dysfunction.
Generally speaking, kelp is an ordinary but nutritious food which is suitable for most of the people. Therefore, as long as we pay attention to the above special notes when eating kelp, it will certainly bring us some benefits to our health.
