Are you tired of eating nuts all the time because there are no other low carb snacks? I know I was! That's why I went out and discovered a range of exciting ad nutritious low carb snacks that I will be sharing with you in this article. Gone are those days when you have to remain hungry because you can not find any suitable foods! Some of these snacks are ready made and sold in stores while others can be made by you at home.
Let's start with the ones that you can make yourself. Following these low carb recipes will save you money and keep you healthy.
1.) Dehydrating your own snacks. Ever buy those dried fruit packs that cost a huge amount of money for a small amount of fruit while your fruits at home go bad? Why not dehydrate your own fruits? That way you can control what fruits to use and how dry you want it. Mangoes, kiwis and apples are all great to dehydrate yourself while they are difficult to find in the store. When dehydrating apples and pears and other fruits that turn brown during oxidation, you should dip the fruit in some lemon or lime juice diluted with some water. This will keep them nice and white while giving them a very faint hint of citrus. You can buy a dehydrator or use your oven on a very low temperature. Usually, you need the temperature to be below 200F. For many ovens, this is not possible. If this is the case for your oven, then you can keep the door to your oven slightly ajar to lower the temperature. It takes a whole to dehydrate the food, but you can dehydrate a bunch all at once. Vegetables are also great to dehydrate. You can slice a zucchini into thin slices, then dip them into a light salty or otherwise flavored mixture to add some flavor and help them dehydrate faster. Try a spicy rub perhaps. There's a lot of potential there.
2.) Low carb cookies. Just like flourless cookies are possible so are low carb cookies. You can bake these yourself! The batter is made from butter, flax meal and peanut butter. Flavoring comes from adding Splenda and cinnamon. Other spices like nutmeg and lemon peel can also be included.
3.) Cheese, olives and salami. Cut the cheese and salami into small chunks. Take out any pits from the olives. Marinade everything together with a small amount of olive oil and mix together. This makes a delicious and filling snack. The only downside to this is that it is a bit messy to eat. Remember to pack it in a container that will not leak and do not forget to pack a fork! I've actually seen these sold at Grand Central in New York. It's a great salad that does not take up much room but can keep those pangs of hunger away for quite a while.
4.) Beefy and turkey jerky. You can make jerky yourself using the dehydrator discussed above. Try flavoring it with a spice rub. Alternatively, you can buy it as it's sold in many stores. However, before you make your purchase, take a look at the ingredients list as some flavors contain sugar (sometimes as barbecue sauce or teriyaki sauce).
5.) Low Carb Crackers. It's just like eating normal regular full-carb crackers, except these are low in carbs. They come in a variety of flavors and feature a deliciously crunchy texture. You can buy these online.
