Massage and Outdoor Exercise Can Recharge and Re-energize You in Tampa, Lutz, Carrollwood and Wesley Chapel

According to Massage Envy Magazine’s Fall 2009 online issue, exercise and regular massage can recharge your energy. Take advantage of this and go outdoors to exercise when the weather is great in Tampa, Lutz, Carrollwood and Wesley. Afterwards, you can get deep tissue massage or sports massage from a massage clinic in Tampa.

Amy Lynn Smith writes on outdoor exercise in the Summer 2009 issue of the same online massage magazine. She interviewed the spokesman of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Walt Thompson, Ph.D. He said, “I urge everyone to take advantage of the good weather because the bad weather is going to be here before you know it.”

Thompson encourages everyone to make full use of the outdoors. “Look at your environment and determine what kinds of activities you can do,” he says. Smith concurs and says that there are walking and hiking paths as well as bike paths to explore.

Smith also got the spokesman of the American Council on Exercise (ACE), exercise physiologist Pete McCall, to agree. McCall points to workout equipment already present in some public parks, including equipment for pull-ups and step-ups, available for everyone’s use. If those do not exist in your park, he says you should think outside the box in finding alternatives. “Use a ledge or bench for step-ups, or do some push-ups in the park.” You can also maximize the children’s jungle gym. “As long as there aren’t any kids on it, use the jungle gym to do various exercises like pull-ups. Just climbing around on a jungle gym is good exercise.”

McCall also cites schools as good workout areas during the summer when their facilities are not being used by students. “Run up and down the bleachers while humming the theme from Rocky in your head,” he says.

Thompson recommends further milking any recreational activity for more workout possibilities. He advises golfers to carry their own clubs and take brisk walks to holes instead of using golf carts. He says adding more hours to putting practice will add arms swing exercise. He even jests that playing bad golf gives a better upper body workout because “You’ll have to swing your club that many more times.”

The same maximization of activities applies to yard work, as well. Thompson says, “My riding mower conked out last year. I decided to use my push mower instead, and when I realized how much exercise I was getting I put off fixing my riding mower.”

Smith has other ideas to use in one’s own backyard, no matter how small it may be. She proposes setting up your own outdoor gym with a jump rope, a medicine ball and exercise bands. She further recommends having a yoga mat for stretching and relaxation. You won’t even have to leave home to enjoy outdoor exercise.

McCall adds that physical activity and massage should go hand in hand. “I think everyone should get out and be active on a regular basis. And the more active you are, the more often you need a massage.” He advises getting massage therapy one day after every instance of rigorous physical activity, explaining that it helps the muscles adapt to, and recover from, the physical stress experienced by the musculoskeletal system during exercise. McCall adds that regular massage therapy keeps the muscles limber, facilitating more efficient stretching before after each workout.
