Having fewer bowel movements also increases the risk of your stool becoming dry and hard. Waste matter is in liquid form when it moves from the small intestines into the colon. The colon begins to absorb the water to prevent watery stools.
In a healthy digestive system the stools come out solid but they’re still soft and moist. However, the longer the stool remains in the colon the drier and harder it will become. This can result in painful bowel movements and constipation.

The western style diet consists mostly of processed foods that contain a lot of fat, refined sugars, flour and chemical additives. These are very hard to digest, cause excessive gas, bloating and a sluggish bowel system.
To improve your bowels eat a diet that is rich in nutrients, enzymes, fiber and prebiotics. These combined will have your bowel movements going in no time.
Furthermore, make sure you drink more fluids, especially water as dehydration is a common cause of constipation.
