Grundy County Bounty on Coyotes

In the wake of recent coyote attacks Grundy County has issued a bounty for killed coyotes. Recent pets have gone missing and Board President Ron Severson had a cow on his farm killed by a pack of hungry coyotes. Helping to fund the ordnance is The Ducks Unlimited Grundy County chapter and the National Turkey Federation. Both non-profit organizations. The Grundy County bounty on coyotes is $15.

Coyote hunters must bring in both ears from the killed coyote to claim the bounty. Any hunters looking to get involved to receive the Grundy County bounty on coyotes must still be properly licensed and sign an affidavit stating where the killed coyote was taken. Since Wednesday when the Coyote Bounty ordnance was passed by the Grundy County board, ears have already been coming in. A statement by a Ducks Unlimited member remarked no one is helping. However no one is asking for help either. At least not on our end. We receive calls about coyotes very frequently yet usually just to report a sighting, never have we had a call on a coyote killing animals or endangering humans. On the subject of the Grundy County bounty on coyotes only time will tell the effect it has on the coyote population.

The Grundy County bounty on coyotes isn’t much more then the price of a coyote pelt so I don’t see old time trappers pulling out the old trap basket but it may increase the pressure a little with current coyote trappers considering the pelt is still salvageable.
